By accessing and using FairShare, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree with any of these terms, you are prohibited from using this service.
2. Service Description
FairShare is a web-based platform designed to help users track and manage shared expenses among groups of people. The service provides:
- Creation and management of expense groups
- Recording expenses with multiple currency support
- Automatic balance calculations
- Settlement tracking between group members
- Activity history and notifications
FairShare is a tracking tool only. We do not process payments, handle money transfers, or act as a financial institution.
3. User Accounts and Responsibilities
3.1 Account Creation
To use FairShare, you must create an account by providing accurate and complete information. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your password
- All activities that occur under your account credentials
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access or security breach
- Ensuring you meet the minimum age requirement (13 years)
3.2 Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
- Violate any laws in your jurisdiction
- Transmit any harmful code, viruses, or malicious software
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts
- Harass, abuse, or harm other users
- Impersonate any person or entity
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data without permission
4. Your Data and Content
4.1 Ownership
You retain ownership of all data you submit to FairShare, including expense records, group information, and personal details. We do not claim ownership of your content.
4.2 License to Use
By using FairShare, you grant us a limited license to store, display, and process your data solely for the purpose of providing the service to you and your group members.
4.3 Data Accuracy
You are responsible for the accuracy of all expense data, amounts, and member information you enter. We are not liable for disputes arising from incorrect data entry.
5. Groups and Shared Access
When you create or join a group:
- Your profile information becomes visible to all group members
- You can view and interact with expenses and balances within that group
- Group admins have the authority to add/remove members and manage group settings
- You acknowledge that other members can see your financial activities within the group
Use discretion when inviting members to groups. We are not responsible for disputes between group members.
6. Financial Disclaimer
Important: FairShare is a tracking and calculation tool only. We do NOT:
- Process payments or money transfers
- Provide financial advice or services
- Verify the accuracy of expense amounts or settlements
- Act as a mediator in financial disputes
- Guarantee that debts will be paid
All actual payments between users must be arranged independently through external methods (bank transfer, cash, payment apps, etc.).
7. Intellectual Property
The FairShare platform, including its design, code, features, graphics, and branding, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not:
- Copy, modify, or distribute our platform or code
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
- Use our name, logo, or trademarks without written permission
- Create derivative works based on our service
8. Service Availability and Changes
We strive to keep FairShare available and functional, but we do not guarantee:
- Uninterrupted or error-free service
- That defects will be corrected immediately
- That the service is free from viruses or harmful components
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time without prior notice.
9. Account Termination
9.1 By You
You may delete your account at any time through your profile settings. Upon deletion, your personal information will be removed, though group expense records may be retained for other members.
9.2 By Us
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or misuse the service.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, FairShare and its operators shall not be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
- Loss of profits, data, or business opportunities
- Disputes between users regarding expenses or settlements
- Unpaid debts or financial losses between members
- Errors in calculations resulting from incorrect data entry
- Unauthorized access to your account
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FairShare, its operators, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the service, violation of these terms, or infringement of any rights of others.
12. Governing Law and Disputes
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of FairShare shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of the appropriate jurisdiction.
13. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated by posting a notice on our website or via email. Continued use of FairShare after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
14. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
